Volkswagen, Land Rover, Among Those Paying Millions in Fines for Missing Co2 Targets

Electrek 3:53 pm on April 12, 2024

In 2020, European automakers including Volkswagen and Jaguar Land Rover paid $552 million in fines for missing CO2 emission targets set by the EU. The fines were a result of each company failing to comply with individual CO2 emission targets based on their vehicle mass. To avoid paying fines, some automakers joined emissions pools or partnered with companies prioritizing EV sales. In 2023, the EU will require a 25% reduction in fleet emissions from new passenger cars, and by 2030-3, only zero-emission vehicles can be sold.
