In a significant milestone for renewable energy, California's main grid exceeded energy demand with renewable sources (wind, solar, and hydro) for 30 out of the past 38 days. Stanford University professor Mark Z. Jacobson shared this news on Twitter and noted that supply exceeds demand for several hours per day, a consistency never achieved before. The large battery storage facility in California has been filling up excess energy and is now deploying it to offset methane gas generation during off-peak hours. The California Independent System Operator (ISO) recommended 26 new transmission projects worth $6.1 billion, including offshore wind development. Jacobson predicts that California will run entirely on renewables and battery storage 24/7 by 2035.
