Vale and Central South University have launched a joint laboratory for low-carbon and hydrogen metallurgy in Hunan province, China. The lab will focus on iron ore concentration, low-carbon agglomeration, functional materials preparation, carbon emissions reduction, biomass, and hydrogen metallurgy. Nippon Steel has secured approval to acquire U.S. Steel and plans to develop hydrogen injecting technology for blast furnaces, high-grade steel production in large-size electric arc furnaces, and hydrogen use in the direct iron reduction process. The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) awarded AUD 59.1 million in funding to support renewable hydrogen and low-emission iron and steel projects. MOL Group inaugurated a 10 MW green hydrogen plant in Hungary, which will produce 600 metric tons of green hydrogen per year using renewable electricity.
